Karato fish market in Shimonoseki 下関の唐戸市場

Hello everyone!

When I was a child, crossing the Kanmon Strait, 

which connects Kyushu to Honshu, was very exciting. 

In most cases, I left Nagasaki early morning

by train or car and arrive at Mojiko in about six hours. 

When we entered the Kanmon Tunnel, 

the adults told us that we are going to pass the tunnel!.

The graves of my grandparents, 

who moved to the continent immediately after getting married 

and returned to Japan after the war, are laid to rest on a hill 

overlooking the Kanmon Strait.

It's a sight you won't get tired of looking at inside.

However, we who are still alive prefer the Karato Market.

I wonder what the people would like to get in the long line.

When I looked at the front, I saw "fuku no karaage". 

In the Karato Market there are only a few restaurants

and only one toilet in spite of its large building.

If you look at the menu at the store and think it's good, 

you should enter or line up immediately. 

If you don't do that, it will be out of stock. 

It is important to make quick decisions 

about what to buy or eat at the restaurants.

子供の頃、九州から本州へ通じる「関門海峡」を超えることは、

とてもエキサイティングなことでした。

だいたいの場合、夜明け前に列車か車で長崎を出て、

6時間ぐらいかけて門司港に着いていました。

関門トンネルに入る時には「さあ、トンネルに入るよ！」

と大人達が声をかけてくれていたので、

子供達は「豚は寝る！トンネル！！！（ギャハハ・・・・！）

なんて言って、はしゃいでいました。

結婚してすぐに大陸に渡って、終戦後日本に戻ってきた祖父母が

眠るお墓は関門海峡を見渡す丘の上にあります。

多くの海外船籍の船が行き交い、

1日中見ていても飽きない光景です。

しかしながら、生きているわたし達は、唐戸市場の方が好きです。

長蛇の列は何を求める人達なのだろう？と先頭を見ると「

ふくのからあげ」でした。唐戸市場は、

広い割には食堂が数件しかなく、

トイレも１つしかないのでたいへん混み合います。

店頭でメニューを見て良いと思ったらすぐに入るか、

並ぶべきです。迷っていると品切れになってしまいます。

市場で何を買うか、食べるかには即決力が大切です！
